13 4-24-23 Missionary Work
13- 4/24/23 - Missionary Work
I listened to and studied Elder Cook’s talk from Conference this week, Safely Gathered Home. It went hand in hand with what I am currently reading in The Millennial Messiah. I feel an overwhelming gratitude and love for missionary work, and for all “our” faithful missionaries. Sadie, Seth, Emma, and now Miles, you have and continue to bless so many of God’s children. Miles we are so proud of what you are doing. This week Rubanita will be baptized, isn’t that awesome! The Holy Ghost whispered for Miles to talk to her as he road his bike by. Now look what our Heavenly Father has done for her… This week Emma shared a picture with us of someone she taught in Milan who just went through the Temple to be sealed with their spouse for ETERNITY. Think of the message you carry as a missionary! Think of the message we represent and can share as members of His Church. I am so grateful to be a part of it. Avery, Graham, and Lainey and countless others in future generations will follow your examples!
Listen to what Elder Cook taught -
An essential part of this missionary effort is for individual members to become beacon-light examples wherever we live. We cannot be in camouflage.“
“Please understand that there are remarkable blessings in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. The scriptures speak of joy and peace, forgiveness of sins, protection from temptations, and sustaining power from God. Looking beyond this mortal life, we will be prepared to share the gospel with those “in darkness and under the bondage of sin in the great world of the spirits of the dead.”
“My specific prayer today is for every child, young man, young woman, family, quorum, Relief Society, and class to review how we individually and collectively accept dramatic counsel to help gather Israel that has been issued by the Lord and our beloved prophet.”
“We respect agency. In this secular world, many will not respond and participate in the gathering of Israel. But many will, and the Lord expects those who have received His gospel to urgently strive to be a beacon-light example that will help others come to God. This allows our brothers and sisters across the earth to enjoy the supernal blessings and ordinances of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and be safely gathered home.”
I love that call to action the Elder Cook has given us… Let us be among the many that will!
The Book of Mormon is the means by which scattered Israel will be gathered. As I have studied this week I found one of those hidden treasures promised as we earnestly seek for greater light in our lives. Listen to Nephi plainly teach the How and the Why of the Book of Mormon is so essential to missionary work.
1 Nephi 15:14 - And at that day shall the remnant of our seed know that they are of the house of Israel, and that they are the covenant people of the Lord; and then shall they know and come to the knowledge of their forefathers, (gathered in through the Book of Mormon) and also to the knowledge of the gospel of their Redeemer, (the gospel is the doctrine of Christ, it is the Plan of Salvation )which was ministered unto their fathers by him; wherefore, they shall come to the knowledge of their Redeemer and the very points of his doctrine, that they may know how to come unto him and be saved.”
The Book of Mormon will teach and testify to all of scattered Israel, (and all those who are adopted in through baptism) that they are part of the Covenant God made with Abraham. It will not only testify to them of Jesus Christ, but of all the points of his doctrine (including all saving ordinances) necessary to return back to the presence of our Heavenly Father. They Holy Ghost will testify to them as they learn “how to come unto Him and be saved.” What a promise! That is why Rubanita has a desire to be baptized, and the reason Viviane wanted to be sealed to her husband. You are all making a difference.
Invitation - Never let the Book of Mormon rest on our shelves. Commit to follow the prophet’s counsel to read it every day. He has promised us that we will make better decisions everyday as we do. One of those decisions may be that we will more prayerfully and faithfully choose to actively participate in the gathering!
Love, Dad
