Letter to Emma
Good Morning Cakes,
I woke up this morning thinking about something you said last night that I really admire about you. And that is when you were feeling “complacent” you made the decision to do something about it.
I know that I’ve shared this story many times over the years, but it has had a meaningful impact on me. Probably the greatest lesson I learned from my mom. Remembering seeing her in that old wooden rocking chair rocking back and forth, deep in thought, with tears running down her cheeks and the Book of Mormon open, resting in her lap. Her response to my worry that something was wrong has been an inspiration to me throughout my life. She read to me the scripture found in 2Nephi 28:24 … wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
She was feeling what you were feeling, and we all feel at times, “complacency”, or at ease in Zion , just going through the motions. But more importantly you were both feeling that you should act. It was immobilizing, but a prompting to get up and do something more. It is what Sister Michelle Craig called Divine Discontent (Here is her talk, you should listen to it again when you get time https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2018/10/divine-discontent?lang=eng).
So when you are feeling complacent at times keep doing what you do, keep after it. I thought it was a really neat experience you shared with mama and I last night about the promptings you received at work. Not only did you recognize the prompting, you followed it. Heavenly Father blessed you to see the immediate blessing from doing so. You recognized this blessing because that same morning you prayed for it, and it was on your mind to help someone or bless someone else’s life. You many not recognized it but you are following those promptings often. I hear them as you talk to us. I hear you offering grace to Kennedy, I seen you striving to find ways to be less critical of others. I see you being guided and attracted to qualities in young men that really matter, and the list goes on and on.
Continue to feel that divine content, continue to pray for His hand to be seen in your life. As you pray and seek it will become more apparent everyday how much He wants to bless you and how much He is blessing you.
I love you cakes. Good luck on your test tomorrow. We are praying for you and cheering louder for you than you know.
Love,
