I think it is safe to say, after this weekend of General Conference, no one left hungry spiritually or physically. :) Mama takes such great care of us all and makes gathering events so much fun. We are so blessed to have her as ours!
It is always wonderful when mama and I have the blessing of having you all home at once. But as I sat there this weekend and watched as you each prioritized and look forward to hearing words from living apostles and prophets, it was all the sweeter. I’m so proud of each one of you, and all you are becoming.
Lainey mentioned to me after listening to President Nelson’s talk yesterday, that she thought the prophet talked about the Second Coming a lot. How sweet is that, in the excitement of 17 new temples being announced, what she heard from the prophet and was pondering is the Savior’s return. I think deep down, it probably caused her to wonder when that event would occur, and if it would happen in her lifetime. It wasn’t something that seemed to cause her to fear or become overly anxious about, but you could tell it made her think.
Lainey’s ability to “peacefully ” wonder about these things is due to her faithful efforts to draw close to the Savior. She sees Him as her friend and Redeemer. She feels close to him because of her diligence in studying the scriptures, prayer, and regularly being in His house. The prophet has continually pointed her (and each of us) to the temple, and she has faithfully followed the prophet.
President Nelson taught us that temples will help prepare a people that will help prepare the world for the Savior’s return. He encouraged us to teach our children to create a pattern of temple attendance while they are young, so that this pattern will follow them throughout their lives. He promised that this regular worship in the temple will help us focus our lives on Jesus Christ, making our discipleship our highest priority. I see this in your little sister, and I see this in each one of you!
Here was the prophets invitation to each of us. He challenged us to ask ourselves this questions:
To whom or to what will I give my life?
For me this question brings me back to my covenants, and my desire to consecrate my life to Jesus Christ and to the building up of His kingdom on the Earth. Though my efforts in this regard are far from perfect, they without doubt have brought me every joy that I have in my life. And I believe that this joy will only grow as my discipleship deepens. I believe that to be true for each one of us!
I hope you all have an amazing week. Can’t wait to see you again this weekend.
Love,
Dad
