114- 5/5/25 Inner Excellence
Our house is full again, and nothing could make us happier. We are looking forward to the months ahead together. This past week was amazing to be able to go back to Miles’ mission and see where he served and meet some of the people he taught and loved. Pretty special!
On the cruise I read a book mama had given a few months ago called Inner Excellence, written by a Sports Performance Coach. It’s a great book that dives into how to become our best selves. It parallels in many ways things taught in the scriptures. As I read it I couldn’t stop thinking of our prophet leading us to the ultimate source of becoming “our best selves”, Jesus Christ.
“When we choose to repent, we choose to change! We allow the Savior to transform us into the best version of ourselves.” (President Nelson)
Invitation: Below are three of the major highlights I took away from reading Inner Excellence, and the parallels found in the scriptures that have helped me want to refocus on letting God prevail in my life. Letting Him continue to transform me into my best self as I strive to change, repent, and become more like Jesus Christ. I invite each of you to consider these areas in your own lives, and how the Spirit is directing you to become your best self.
- Why settle for a lollipop when you are meant to have the whole candy store.
- To be our best selves, knowing who we are, who our Creator is, and the purpose for which we were created is essential. It reminds me of Esau selling his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of pottage, not really knowing his divine potential
- To be our best selves we must have a higher purpose
- Our prophet has urged us to think Celestial. That is our ultimate and highest purpose, to return to our Heavenly Father in the Celestial Kingdom. With this focus in our minds, we never forget who we are, and the need to turn our hearts toward the Savior.
- While the world meditates, and uses all sorts of tools to recenter on “their” higher purposes, we have been blessed with temples where we can recenter on what matters most and how to find access to greater power.
- Let go of ego, our natural tendencies to focus on ourselves.
- The scriptures teach us throughout that the natural man, the selfish man, is an enemy to God. That we must lose ourselves in order to findaxsdter our true selves. That putting God first, is serving others ahead of self….there are so many examples of scripture teaching us to be selfless.
One thing I have come to know for certain in my life, is the need we each have for constant repentance in our lives, “daily repentance”. The ability to learn, grow, and change. Repentance made available to us only through Jesus Christ and His infinite atonement. He loves us perfectly, and has all power to help us in our path to become like Him. I know this is true, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Love,
