This week I wanted to focus our attention more closely on Elder Bednar’s most recent conference address, The Times of Restitution of All Things.
We often joke with each other that we should avoid the “back of the bus” or to stay out of “the weeds” when discussing or studying gospel topics. But in reality, as we consider those we know who have gotten “lost” in the weeds we can all agree it is no laughing matter.
For our own spiritual saftey and the safety of our families going forward, we should frequently check ourselves, making sure our focus of learning and study is on the doctrine of Christ, and His life, teachings, and mission. I think that is what resonated most with me as I listened and studied Elder Bednar’s talk. He said regarding the Restoration of the Church, “I have attempted to summarize basic elements of the most important and glorious “good news” any person anywhere in the world can ever receive—the message that the Lord Jesus Christ has restored His gospel and Church in the latter days.”
Elder Bednar’s message describing the First Vision, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, and the Restoration of the Priesthood and Priesthood Keys, are the core, basic, and essential truths we should focus upon.
My invitation this week is Elder Bednar’s invitation to us: “I invite all to learn about and prove this message. I promise that individuals “who prayerfully study the message of the Restoration and act in faith will be blessed [through the power of the Holy Ghost] to gain their own witness of its divinity and of its purpose to prepare the world for the promised Second Coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
As we gain and strengthen our own testimonies, we will better understand “our purpose” in helping in this important preparation. And as we focus our faith and testimonies on the basics of the Restoration we will keep our faith burning brightly, avoiding the pitfalls that are lurking “in the weeds.”
Love you all. Have a great week!
Dad
