52- 2/5/24 (waiting on the Lord)
Happy Monday!
I thought I would share a thought from our Stake Conference this past weekend that stood out to me. I could relate it to my current work situation, but I’m sure we each can find relatable application of this same principle.
If I were to pick a theme of the conference it would best described by Isaiah 55:8-9 - “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
When we are spiritually minded we can more easily see God’s hand in our day to day lives, even if it is not in the way or time we would wish for. But the Spirit whispers to us that we can patiently wait for something better, enabling us to feel peace and purpose in the waiting, and trust that everything is going to work out for our good in the meantime.
When our mental view is consumed with the world around us, all that seems wrong or not timing up properly in our lives becomes focal. We can become flustered and impatient, feeling a lack of hope and desperation. Poor choices, or a dwindling of our faith and trust in a divine plan are potential consequences of these feelings.
This scripture in Isaiah, and the principle it teaches us, reminds us that we are His creation, that He loves us as a heavenly parent, and that His blessings, love, and timing are infinitely greater than our mortal comprehension.
Invitation for the week: When we find ourselves becoming impatient or unsure, let us fall back on what strengthens our testimony the most. For me it is the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, which solidifies my testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and therefore a latter day prophet, and everything else. This offers me the peace I need when worries arise about what is or is not happening in life. This knowledge allows me the ability to take a deep breath and trust that everything is going to be ok as I wait on the Lord. (Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”)
Remember this! He knows best, loves us the most, and has promised us everything!
Love,
Dad
