106 2/24/25 Faithful Obedience
Faithful Obedience
The last week of February, that’s crazy! It was fun to have Sadie and Seth home for the weekend. It’s definitely the highlight of our week when any of you get to sneak away and come for a visit.
A quick message this week that was meaningful to me that I thought I would share with all of you. We are in the middle of quarterly ministering interviews again as an Elders Quorum Presidency. One of my interviews was with an older brother in the ward who has been struggling in wondering about his personal worthiness. It wasn’t something he felt like he needed to talk to the bishop about, but something from his past that the adversary has been working against him with regarding his thoughts. He was asking for some counsel from his quorum president.
I felt prompted to share with him D&C 6:36-37 (which happens to include the youth theme for this year). The Savior’s plea to each of us: “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not. Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments, and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen.”
My message to this good brother was to just move forward, not looking to the past. In this scripture the Savior tells us that we need to be faithful, to keep His commandments, pointing us to a starting line of right now, and into the future. Becoming faithful, or continuing in faithfulness, doesn’t look in the rear view mirror, but only forward from where we are currently at.
I just really love these scriptures. At times we all experience doubt and fear. The Savior tells us to “Doubt not, fear not”… and instead to stop and “look” or ponder on the wounds in His side and nail prints in His hands. And then, as if to say “I got this!”, tells us to just move forward in faith from where we are at, and to be obedient. This is enough, because He is enough.
Invitation: The next time we are being too hard on ourselves, and Satan keeps bringing things of the past to our minds, things we have sincerely repented for, tempting us to feel like we aren’t worthy of Gods love and promises, remember this scripture and the promise of Jesus Christ Himself. Go forward in faithful obedience.
Love you all very, very much,
Dad
