64 (4-29-24)Scriptures and prophets

64 (4-29-24) This past week in Come Follow Me we studied the first 3 chapters of Mosiah. You are all aware that one of my all time favorite scriptures is found here, but that is not what jumped out at me this week in my personal study of these chapters. What jumped off the pages were all the added knowledge and understanding we have because of the scriptures in our lives. I was talking with the family last night about losing awareness of how much we know and understand from the scriptures and latter day prophets. It is so second nature for us to understand our true identity, our purpose in life, how to know how and when we need to regroup and recommit. The mystery of life’s purpose has been washed away by the flood of revelation we have received from prophets.    But these truths are still very mysterious to the rest of the world who lack these scriptures and teachings needed to lead and guide them.  The people of Zarahemla in these early chapters of Mosiah were jus...

63 (4-22-24) Influence of Family

Hello Family, The weeks keep flying by. We have GG and Opah with us this week and that has been fun. It makes you stop and think how important family connections are. I know you have heard me talk about how influential Grandpa Miller's decision to baptized as a young boy  was, and how that single event has effected the entire Miller family forever forward. The same is true for GG and Opah and that side of the family. If they had made different choices along the way, and had not remained true and faithful to their covenants, our family would not be the same. We would not know the things we know. This past week in Come Follow Me we studied a perfect example of this with Enos and the influence of his family.  Enos would soon find himself on his own with his father Jacob about to pass away, left to make important choices away from his family. Your mama and I feel very much like that as you kids grow up and leave the house. You have always had your own testimonies, and now w...

62 (4-15-24) Line upon Line

62 (4-15-24) Line upon Line Hello Family, Graham, Lainey, and I had a great weekend with Sadie, Seth, Emma, and Noah this past weekend. We missed having Avery and mama with us though. Thanks again to the Jones family for hosting. Such great memories! Here is a text that I received from Salvador this week. “Hi Roarke, Good morning.Thank you for reminding me of conferences. They were awesome, and like I always said they are so smart. I would like to have the same knowledge and wisdom they use in life. Have a great week brother, I love you.” I love that he can recognize the wisdom and truth spoken in conference. I know that not only he, but all of us, can gain this same wisdom, knowledge, and truth if we have a desire, and make they effort to seek for it in our lives. The scriptures teach us this over and over again: “ For he will give unto the faithful line upon line, precept upon precept; and I will try you and prove you herewith.” (D&C 98:12) What power shall stay the heavens?...

61 (4/8/24) General Conference

61 (4/8/24) General Conference It was wonderful and inspiring    to have another General Conference. Mama and I feel so grateful that all of you make this time a priority in your lives.    What a blessing it is to each of us. Can you imagine navigating life without this regular counsel from prophets, seers, and revelators. I know that I can’t.  Conference emphasizes the importance and role of prophets, giving us the opportunity to hear the mind and will of God regularly.  Think about how this guidance has directed your life personally. I know for me without this regular guidance and warning, I would be much less inclined to “think spiritually”. My understanding of the temple, and my associated covenants would be less forefront in my mind. I would feel further away from my Heavenly Father, therefore making my prayers less earnest. I feel like the basic Doctrine of Christ would be less emphasized in my life and lives of those I love.  “We thank T...

60- (4-1-24) Easter

60- (4-1-24) Easter Mon, Apr 1 at 12:12 PM Easter was a really nice day, but we missed having all of you with us! That being said, it was so good to hear how you were spending your time this weekend. Miles takes the cake with being able to have a baptism of one of his friends on Saturday. We just loved those pictures Miles, all dressed in white… that will be an Easter you will never forget. And Sadie, Seth, and Emma being together makes it a little easier on our parent hearts while being away from you. We are so grateful that you have the “eyes” to see those who need to feel loved and included. Emma shared with us what Gale told her on the way home. Something like, “you guys make my life a little happier”. We are so proud of you kids and who you are. It seems like Easter Sunday often falls on Conference weekend, and it was really nice to have the opportunity to take the Sacrament on Easter Day yesterday. I love thinking about the Savior implementing and teaching the apostles the m...
